Indie Filmmaking

Independent filmmaking isn’t always the easiest way to get a movie made but often the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. With more and more movies getting made outside the studio system, and more and more celebrities seeking roles in independent films that allow them to stretch as actors, Hollywood often looks to indies to set new standards and redefine filmmaking. Creative control is often at stake and ultimately for Remember Minnesota, we decided that we wanted to preserve all the elements that we feel really make our story special, and so we are raising the money through private investors.

What’s exciting about this prospect is that it gives us an opportunity to share the process with people who aren’t normally involved in making movies. For starters, since the story is local to Minnesota, and since Brad Melby continues to live and work in Minnesota, and because we intend to film the entire movie on location in Minnesota, we are starting to put our team together there. John and Tess both live in Los Angeles but our roots are far smaller. There’s a reason the story captured us and didn’t let go. We are moved by a simple story of triumph, one that begins with an ordinary guy who finds the courage to become extraordinary. It is that same spirit that continues to fuel the making of the movie, gathering with it the people who feel exactly the same way.
